Chien-Ming Wang to start
As I mentioned in a previous post, Chien-Ming Wang will start tomorrow. CC Sabathia will be pushed back a day in the rotation. And…Phil Hughes will go to the bullpen. Yeah, Phil Hughes is going to the bullpen, no typos. I really don’t understand the move, but Chien-Ming Wang had to return to the rotation eventually. I just don’t really like Hughes in the pen. I will have more if I hear more (this was just announced a few minutes ago at 4:30ish)
Last night Vicente Padilla threw at Teixeira twice last night. In 2005 when Teixeira was a Ranger, he faced Padilla who at the time was with the Phillies. In his first AB Teixeira hit a 2 run home run, in his second AB Teixeira hit a solo home run, in his third AB Teixeira was plunked. Every time since, there has been some issues. “Every time I’ve faced him since, there seem to be balls near my head, near my body,” Teixeira said. “There’s really no reason for it in baseball, If you can’t get a guy out, don’t hit him.” “That’s just not the right way to play the game, but unfortunately, that guy’s been doing it his whole career.” Hmmm. Here’s the link from Marc Craig.
Moving on up
Jesus Montero is moving on up to AA Trenton. Here’s a nice article by once again Marc Craig.
Phil Hughes in the bullpen is temporary says Brian Cashman. He is a starter long term. I figured this, but the news is still calming.
Cashman was just on 1050 ESPN. He basically said Hughes to the pen is just a two week thing. If Wang does well in the rotation and the rest of the rotation is doing well, Phil goes to Scranton to continue starting. If Wang doesn’t do well or the rotation has another problem Hughes goes back in. Tough break for Hughes, he was pitching well, but this was the move to make. You can’t leave Wang in the pen forever, and there is no one else who can be removed from the rotation, so it has to be Hughes. However, the Yankees envision Hughes as a future starter, and I could not agree more. He could go back into the rotation this year if there are injuries or other issues, and in 2010 he could effectively replace Andy Pettitte in the rotation.
Teixeira scratched with a sore ankle from last night. Xrays negative. Day to day.
